Wardrobe Wednesday: Thrifted or Grifted—Tees + Statement Heels

How’s about we play a round of Thrifted or Grifted?

If you’re new to T+G, here’s the skinny:

It’s a little fashion game I made up where you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:

A) 100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand

OR

B) 100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail

…and then you vote and leave me comments telling why you chose the one you did!

(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).

If you’re a Thrifted or Grifted expert, then you know the drill—open those peepers wide so you can take in every last detail of each outfit as you search for telltale signs of thriftedness (WRINKLES DON’T COUNT!) and then comment away telling me why you chose which one you did.

The commenter I find most entertaining (yes, it’s as subjective as they come) will get 5 free entries into our next giveaway (to be announced soon!).

Ookay, ladies, start your engines, because here. we. go.

Is it…

EXHIBIT A:

OR

EXHIBIT B

A couple of quick notes/disclaimers:

1) We had friends coming over for dinner (thanks, Mandy, for snapping the pics!), and I was going for a “casual” vibe. Honestly, upon seeing the pics, I think I look borderline schlubby. Definitely not my goal. I’ll be sure to step up my game next time.

2) The hems of EXHIBIT B are frayed ON PURPOSE. It doesn’t mean anything either way. Just sayin’.

3) What’s that? You’d like another ridiculously cute shot of my angel-baby? Oh, okay, because you insist:

Yes, that would be Della, enjoying her first taste of pebble. Mmm mmm, good.

Okay, then.

I suppose you best get after it!

  1. I can’t begin to guess. Since you look great in both, who cares? And I do believe you put pictures of Della in there to throw everyone off. One look at her and you forget whatever it was you were thinking because all you can do is think..”.AAAAWWW so cute!”, or “Oh I want one that looks like that!”, or something and then you just don’t care what the clothes look like anymore.

  2. At first I thought A…. then I thought, no the necklace and the shoes had to be grifted…..I would have to grift them! They are fabulous! So, I think B is the thrifted choice. The color looks great on you, and Della is so smoochable! :)

  3. I believe Exhibit B is thrifted. You seem more genuinely happy in those photos so the outfit MUST have cost less!!! Plus, the necklace in outfit/Exhibit A wouldn’t last long in a thrift store, I’m thinking… so you either pounced fast, or grifted it. I’m new to this so maybe you could tell me… if I purchase something via Zulily… is it grifted?

  4. Just guessing the shorter arms (summerish) on the shirt make it seem like it could be thrifted…maybe, so curious to find out. I also like both outfits too ..

  5. I went with B being thrifted, exibit A just looked a little less “broke in” although these days most things are a little too broke in, haha. I loved both outfits (especially the shoes!) and would wear both…and Della…WOW, what a Dolly! Melinda mxmomma05@yahoo.com

  6. PS- I pick “B” as thrifted. The heels in “A” look like something you would love so much that you’d buy them on the spot…retail! :) (I would, too!)

PPS- your hair is getting so long! Looks great with and without the bangs :)

PPPS- now I’m back to admiring Della.

  7. I’m going with B, only because of the necklace. The A necklace looks like Abbie was thinking, “Holy Cow! Look at that adorable necklace….GOTTA have it….at least it’s on sale” where the B necklace looks like Abbie was thinking, “Definitely not as cool as my other black necklace, but it will work for my Thrifted or Grifted challenge.”

Your baby girl is Della-liscious!!!!! (Della-cious?)

  8. You are clearly trying to bamboozle us by flashing cute baby scenery before our eyes! How can we think about tees and heels when *she* is around?!

  9. Ooh, this is hard. I vote Miss Della to be the cutest!!

I am going with A, style of jeans, shoes look a little worn on the heels, and I think out fit B fits you well!

  10. I actually spent 1/2 the day thinking about which one to pick…finally decided on B. No real reason, both tops and jeans are so current, so I just guessed.

  11. I went with A as thrifted. The jeans seem a little lower-rise than is in – and the wide legs don’t scream “I’m brand new!” to me. So….yeah. That’s my answer.

  12. Oh man, you completely threw me…I was going to say B because of the frayed hem….but now I have to think of a new reason!! So I’m still guessing B, and my new reason is because the shirt from A looks too bright and vivid of colour. It doesn’t look worn, washed and loved enough to the point of ending up in a thrift store.

  13. This one was so hard. The shoes in #1 make me think thrifted. The shirt in #2 and necklace say thrifted to me. Why did you make this one so tricky?

  14. A is thrifted. The heels are narrower which I’m going with as an older style. I think the jeans fit better in B as well. But the BIGGEST reason is that you clearly placed the beautiful baby girl in the photo shoot of B to distract the readers from the fact that the outfit is embarrassingly grifted rather than proudly thrifted. Am I right or what???

  15. I love Exhibit B is thrifted because of the length of the jeans and fluttery red top. Both look several seasons old. Also the jeans wash on A is darker and cooler.

  16. I think I changed my mind. I voted for B but now I think it’s A. My reason is because I think the shoes in A are likely to be a pair that someone buys on impulse, wears a couple times and then donates them. Then, you get to snatch them up at a fraction of the cost and it doesn’t matter if you only wear them a few times, ’cause they were dirt cheap and they look uber-cute. But, I really prefer the shoes in B for myself.

  17. B because the jeans weren’t quite long enough, but then again, other people say that a’s are too long… Maybe I’m just picky. Or a jeans snob. Hey, you’ve got the person below me who is a shoe/necklace snob, I’ll be the jeans snob, and now you just need a shirt snob!!

  18. I say exhibit A. I think the necklace is red herring, and the pants are a tad too long. But, not too long that an amazing thrifted deal would stop me for buying them!

  19. I picked B because I can see paying retail for the black necklace in A but never for the necklace in B. Does that make me a necklace snob?! Good job, as usual, they both look great honestly!

  20. I chose Exhibit B because I cannot imagine finding the super-cute necklace from Exhibit A secondhand. I mean, who wouldn’t want that little gem in their collection? Great outfits!

  21. I said that outfit B was thrifted because it did look like it had a little wear to it. The shoes are fabulous in both though! :)

  22. I chose B as thrifted…those jeans in A fit you PERFECT and could not have possibly come from a thrift store. And…if that’s you looking “shlubby”…you have nothing to complain about…you look gorgeous as always!

  23. I chose outfit B as thrifted. Reason? Because of the top mainly. It looked only slightly faded and the sleeves on it are slightly rolled as though it has been washed. I guess washing your clothes doesn’t mean it’s not new though!! hahaha. Watch, I’m totally wrong, huh? Cute shoes though…both of them!

  24. I voted that outfit B is thrifted. Mostly because I love the top in A and want you to tell me where I can buy it. And how are heels “borderline schlubby”?

  25. I think exhibit a is the thrifted outfit, both of them are super cute and i’m so jealous!! I think it’s A because the heel is a little bit more worn than the shoes in B.
I need to start shopping at your thrift stores :)

  26. Hi, I just found your blog! I’m guessing exhibit B, just because I think the top is so cool looking, and, other than maternity clothing, I’ve found some of my most “cool” clothing while out thrifting.

  27. I voted A is thrifted because that heel looks more worn than B. That being said if that is borderline schlubby than I have crossed the line into “big mess” territory in my yoga pants and Gators tee, even if it is the cutest t shirt I own with my hair done and make up on!!! Its an errands kind of day. LOVE both shoes by the way. Ridiculous that either of those came from thrifting – I get great clothes, but no good shoes thrifting!

  28. Ummm, no to “borderline schlubby”. Just sayin. But I choose “A” for thrifted. Why? Cause I like it more and you always find and put together fantastic outfits with your thrifted finds. Why? Cause my gut said so. Why? Cause I feel like I’ve seen the shoes before on a thrifted outfit. (Have I??? Now I’m not so sure!! Well, anyway…) Why? Just because! And your little Della is ADORABLE. She has SO MUCH HAIR!!!! Cute, cute, cute!!!

  29. I’d love to say that exhibit A was the thrifted one (’cause I like it the best), especially as there looked to be dirt on the heel of one of your shoes – but that’s not to say that you didn’t step in mud when you went outside!
My choice is B because the top reminds me of something that my friends wore in the late 90′s, and the jeans cling like they are well broken in.
Can I just say again that I really like the top and shoes from Exhibit A? You look fab – even if you think you looked boarderline schlubby. :)

I love comments so much I'd actually consider making them my sixth kid if I could. Seriously. Love. And I read every single one and will do my darndest to respond, especially if you have a question. So, yeah. Comment away! I'm listening!
