So far, all of my children have been born in the 20’s of their respective months.

Here’s the breakdown:

Ezra, the 24th of May

Simon, the 27th of November

Adelaide (Della), the 21st of November

and

Evangeline (Evy) and Magnolia (Nola), the 24th of September

Different years, of course, but all within six days of each other in terms of calendar dates, a fact of which both my friend Mandy and my husband reminded me when I was getting antsy for the twins to come, and it wasn’t even the 20th yet.

Kind of weird, huh?

Of course, it’s nothing quite so unusual as my friend, Kyla, who is a fellow twin mom and has had all three of her births on the 11th of various months (I can’t remember the exact time, but I know that both of her twins were born after 11 PM on the 11th of their month, so she cut that one pretty darn close).

You might have noticed that Simon and Della have birthdays within a week of each other in November.

And if you’re really sharp, you might have further noticed that Simon has the misfortune of having a birthday very close to when Thanksgiving usually comes around.

In fact, his first birthday coincided with Thanksgiving, so, of course, I made him a turkey cake:

Here I am with my friend, Jerica, and my two little cutie-pie boys (I can’t believe how long ago this seems; they’re so tiny!).

The Thanksgiving proximity means that Simon has never had a real birthday party.

We always make him cupcakes or some such gooey treat and sing happy birthday while we’re at a relative’s house, but as far as a proper party dedicated to  Simon with friends over and the whole works…never.

Poor kid.

But this year he’s turning 5, so we’re going to try to do it up right. He’ll still have to share a little since we’re combining Adelaide’s 2nd birthday with his, but he’s the focus.

The theme is Pirates and Princesses, and I wanted to combine the two on their invitation, but it was too complicated (for my amateur invitation making skills anyway), so I just went with one and came up with this:

simon's bday-001

{the front}

simon's bday-004

{the back}

I’m brainstorming all of kinds of theme-y things to do to  make it fun, but I’ll be honest, a lot of them may not get done.

I’m determined to at least have the cake made by the time the guests arrive (which is better than I managed for Adelaide’s first birthday party), but other than that, we’ll just be celebrating the cutest little dimpled 5-year-old ever (and his equally dimpled and cute little sister, of course).

And that’s what I’ve been up to.

What about you guys?

Any fun happenings lately?

Well, link ‘em up, then!

(Or tell me about them in the comments if you don’t have a blog)

  1. Ha! I feel honored to be mentioned in your blog! Believe me, we were praying hard to have those babies on the 11th after my water broke at 8:30 PM on the night of the 11th. I may or may not have even been ready to offer Thalia a bribe to forge the birth records! Thankfully though, it was not needed.

I just read this one for the first time while digging around your blog in search of where you posted the twins’ beautiful names. I was talking to a friend who is pregnant about how I love classic, older names and mentioned your twins. What are all of your girls’ middle names?

    1. I would have paid her too! 🙂

Oh, and the girls’ full names are:

      Adelaide Elizabeth

      Evangeline Noelle

      and

      Magnolia Claire

  2. I know what you mean about having a kid who’s birthday is around a holiday. My oldest daughter’s birthday is on Christmas and she is going to be 10 this year. It is really hard to have a party for her. So far the only kind of parties that she has had are family parties. It is so hard to get classmates and friends to a party that is in December. I also did not realize until today that your twins were born on the same day that my 4 year old daughter was born on (Sept. 24th). Everyone keeps telling me i am going to have the twins next week even though i will only be 36 weeks. Good luck with the party planning and i am sure that what ever you come up with he will have a blast.

  3. Wait…wait…pirates and princesses?!? Can I steal that? My birthday (May 12) gets eclipsed by my son’s (May 13) every year, but I could combine them into a Princess Bride theme and make both of us happy! (I’ll spare you the PB quotes that are popping into my head right now!) 🙂

  4. That is a lot of great birthday celebrations this month. Happy Birthday to all. Love joining in, thank you for hosting.
    Joy

  5. Oh Mom Guilt:( We always worry if we do enough for our babies:) I was told once that they survive in spite of us, lol. Have fun at the birthday party:)
PS Thanks for sharing and thanks for hosting.
PSS So enjoyed Janel at Nellie Belllie yesterday

  6. hey! so not even 4 weeks ago, we had a princess party for my now 4-year old (but i know all about COMBO parties – my 5 year old son had an avengers party this summer combined with his 2-year old sister’s Yo Gabba Gabba themed party… which made both pretty lame, esp. since we were ON VACATION at the time and we had the party at my in law’s house! but i digress…)>

anyway, a FUN and pretty EASY thing that ALL the kids would love it to make candy necklaces. or edible necklaces. get some string (yarn is fine) and bowls/dishes of mini pretzels, fruit loops, cheerios, gummy life savers, peach rings and anything else round with a hole in the middle and NOT covered in chocolate that you can find. this was a HUGE HIT at our party. kids ranging in age from 2 to 8 enjoyed it!

also, grab a piece of poster board (well, two, actually). sketch and rough-paint/draw with a marker a pirate ship on one and a princess castle on the other. grab some stickers from the dollar store and the boys have to try to get their sticker closest to “walking the plank” or something pirate-y and the girls have to get their lost princess back into the castle through the main entrance. yep, you guessed it. it’s a spin on pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey and it works with your theme! (i thought i had photos on my blog but they’re not there, so i must not have posted them yet. i’ll get them up this weekend…. http://www.tamstreasurebox.com)

    happy party planning!

  7. Your comments about data reminds me of my second birth experience. Our first daughter is born on the 20th and about 2 years and a couple of months later I was back in hospital on the 20th. At 11 pm my husband announced that we only had one hour left to get baby number two out so that the children could have the same number date and it would be easier for him to remember. Being somewhere up high from the gas I was sucking on, I thought this the most hilarious thing I had ever heard and nearly choked on the tube from laughter. I could not deliver his request and night a baby girl into the world at 1.05 am on the 21st. Ironically, I was only 5 minutes late to delivering at the same time…..

I love hearing from you guys!
