Hidey-ho, lovelies! It’s FRIDAY!

And have I got a treat for you.

Beth from Sawdust and Embryos is here today to show us the DIY/bargain magic she worked on her (TWIN) baby girls’ nursery…

AND.

She was even sweet enough to pick this week’s features.

Double score!

Take it away, chica!

Hey 5D5W readers!

You and I? We have something in common you know…

We come back to Abbie’s blog day after day because she’s witty and gorgeous and crafty and super-mom-ish. UGH!

I’m Beth stopping by from over at Sawdust and Embryos, and am a fellow twin-mama myself! My man-child and I find ourselves knee-deep in all kinds of furniture transformations and tutorials while the babes are sleeping, and have a blast while we’re at it! AND we love sharing the good/bad/and ugly on our bloggity-blog! We hope you’ll come over and snoop around for a bit!

And well, since twin girls are on the mind today, I thought it fitting to share our baby girls’ Nursery! We poured our heart and soul into this room for our little miracles (see our fertility story here), and it just might be our favorite room in the whole house now!

We started with mustard walls, and bought some delightful turquoise fabric for curtains. (We used leftover fabric to make an upholstered headboard for our bedroom!). I wanted the ‘bones’ of the room to be gender neutral, leaving us with the freedom to frill it up for our impending girls… and potentially man-it-up for any future little boys (fingers crossed)!

My favorite thing in the room just might be the changing table. It was an old cabinet that we pulled out of my grandma’s barn. It was quite a sight. Nick had to partially rebuild it to stabilize it, and it needed a new top surface… not to mention being completely stripped of it’s crackling lead-based-paint-death-trap.

But when I finally got my hands on it to do a little painting, I used the curtain fabric as inspiration and painted a damask design asymmetrically onto the changing table. (It was EASY! Click here for instructions)

The crib is a vintage Jenny Lind crib that we got for a steal on the List-of-Craig (making necessary adjustments to make it safe) and painted black. I bought fabric on clearance to make the bedding and crib skirt. And I made big tissue poms to hang over the crib like a huge fluffy mobile… (tutorial here!).

If you’re wondering why there’s only one crib… it’s because we decided to have the girls share a crib from day one. And they’re still sharing now at 18 months!

Nick built floating shelves and a little book rack (at toddler level!) for this narrow/awkward wall. I love being able to display little sentimental knick-knacks from my childhood, and various keepsakes and whathaveyou. It’s these things that make our house feel like a home. I just may be sentimental to a fault! Click here for evidence of that.  🙂

In the closet, we hung a second shelf and moved the clothing bar down. We added some cup hooks to the top shelf, and hung little plastic crates that I found at the Dollar Tree. They’re perfect for holding socks, headbands, hats, booties… anything!

Every single element in the nursery was either purchased used, DIY’ed, or both! We completely furnished and accessorized this entire room for less than $400 (see the full budget breakdown and source list here). It was absolutely a labor of love for our little babes, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Huge resounding THANKS to Abbie for for letting me stop by… and to all you readers who took the time to check out our girls’ nursery! We’d love to have you head on over to our blog Sawdust and Embryos sometime to say HI! And if you’d like, you can subscribe via RSS Feed, Facebook, Pinterest, or by Google+.

And finally, without further adieu… my faves from last week’s Linky ParTAY!

Wow. I’m loving all the turquoise, Beth! (And I don’t know who you’re calling super-mom, but let me just say that there’s only one of us that has twins’ with an organized closet, and it ain’t me!).

And now, it’s time for all you fine folks to link up your best and brightest of the New Year.

Let’s get after it, shall we?

P.S. Would you do me the favor of linking back to this party in some way (you can either add a text link or button up—from the sidebar—either works : )

  7. Thank you so much for the awesome party! That nursery is amazing…it almost has me wishing my kiddos were little so I could redo a room. Almost 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  10. Betsy, it’s true! There are definitely challenges at times. Some nights I think… this just might be the last night! But we’re playing things by ear, and so far it’s working out very well (with exception to those occasional nights). The benefits are, they love to snuggle… and they entertain each other and play quietly together in the mornings while we sleep in. And the other benefit is… THERE ISN’T ROOM FOR A SECOND CRIB! Huge problem! But we’ll deal with it when the time comes. We know it won’t last forever. 🙂

  11. Oh my goodness, I love love love the paper flower and lantern mobile. Also, I feel so honored my knitting pattern was selected as number one choice for links from last week (the first time I’ve ever shared one). Thanks for hosting these!

I love hearing from you guys!
