It’s BAAAAACK.

Time for a little…

Thrifted or Grifted is a silly little fashion game I came up with in which I wear two similar ensembles, and you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:

A) 100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand

OR

B) 100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail (NOTICE THE “R” IN GRIFTED! SOMETIMES, I GET EMAILS FROM PEOPLE WONDERING WHY I DO A GAME ABOUT “GIFTED” CLOTHES! : ))

…and then you vote and leave me comments telling why you chose the one you did!

(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).

If you’re a Thrifted or Grifted pro, then you know the drill—ask your great-uncle’s sister’s cousin’s best friend what she thinks, show the options to your husband (and watch him roll his eyes), lick the screen…do whatever it takes for you to feel fully satisfied that you have sufficiently scoured each outfit for telltale signs of thriftedness (WRINKLES DON’T COUNT!) and then comment away telling me why you chose which one you did.

The commenter I find most entertaining (there’s nothing fair or random about it! ; )) will get 5 free entries into a fun giveaway that starts tomorrow!

So…

Is it?

OPTION A

Or…

OPTION B

I’ll never teeee-ell. Oh wait. That’s not true. I will tell. Tomorrow morning, in fact.

But for now, guess away! And don’t forget the best part: COMMENTING. Your reactions to these post always brighten my week, and my husband’s out of town right now, so I could really use some distraction from 24/7 solo bottom-wiping and snack-procuring (clearly, I’m not afraid to beg).

Which outfit is 100% Thrifted?

  1. I’m going with B…purely based on the shoes! They look more vintage! nothing clever to say unfortunately! Just appreciated your comment over @ the Anderson crew blog and wanted to say hi (since I am also a fellow stalker!!!)

  2. I’m going with option B being the thrifted outfit. I don’t have a clear idea why, but I do agree with mrs.huffman that the top in option B looks a bit tight and perhaps you would not have paid retail for something that didn’t fit just perfectly. However, you look great in both outfits! I’ve been looking for a breezy white top for this summer and I love the one in option A!

  3. I say option B, just because the peach skinnies don’t seem as saturated in color as most of the colored jeans currently in stores. But the hole in the knee of the pants in option A is throwing me off… Hmm… I’d like to use one of my lifelines, please. I’m sticking with option B.

  4. I almost wish the t-shirt from option A and the capris from option b where together. Loooove that t-shirt!!! My choice is option B-cause it is just as pretty, the capris are gorgeous and the price tag I am sure makes this outfit a great deal! I have to comment on the braids as well, lovely 🙂

  5. Definately B is thrifted, it looks great but that top is dated, not much but a little! I feel so bad to comment and say something looks old, but since I am old I guess I can get by with it 🙂

  6. Both outfits look cute and summery but I think option A is the thrifted one. The pants seem kind of baggy and less worth paying retail price for?

  7. I vote option A because I’d pay full price for the pants in option B… and because I’m hoping I could find something like option A in the trift store

  8. I think B is thrifted because of the aforementioned slit in the pants and they are a little shorter than most that are in the stores now. The top is a little “un-ironed” where the ruffle is, so thought that might be a clue…and a little tighter than I thought you might get if there were more size options. The top in A looks high end and trendy with the pleats. Both colors look good on you. 🙂

  9. Usually I make my decision based on the shoes, but they didn’t seem to help me this time! How do I tell you without it being insulting that I picked B as thrifted simply because I like the top in A better? <--that was my attempt. I recently did some thrifting and didn't have nearly as much luck/skill in my endeavor as you do. I continue to be impressed with your eye for the good stuff!

  10. I think option B is thrifted! It’s very cute, but not quite as polished as A, and I feel like maybe I have seen you wear that top before? The top in option A looks very high end, with detail I think you might be willing to pay a little more for. You look adorable in both though! Thanks for caring enough about your little readers to do one of these posts, even though you must still be tired from all of your wedding festivities! 🙂

  11. I voted that B is thrifted. The pants have slits in them and I haven’t seen that lately, but I did have colored pants like that in high school. But, I’m not saying they look dated–super cute.

    Also, rock those braids, Abs!

  12. I think option B is the thrifted one. You are amazing at finding great deals and with skinny jeans being so popular I’d assume there are more of those to find. In an only slightly related note would you be willing to share what the pants in option A are? I love the slightly baggy rolled up look and those are simply adorable. 🙂

  13. C’mon now, light jeans AND a light top? Option A has gotta be grifted. I can’t ever find anything white-ish and unstained at Goodwill! Unless my Goodwill is just dirtier… 😉

    1. Your good will is dirtier! I just got some amazing Talbots white skinny jeans – unstained for 4.19! I also bought some nice (clean) white shorts! But all Goodwills aren’t created equal. I drive 20 mins to the one where I can find amazing clothes (I only buy the name brand clothes I find) and bypass the one 5 mins from my home.

  14. I’m going with option A as thrifted. This is because it doesn’t fit just as nicely as the other option. Although you do look wonderful in it too 🙂
    Have a lovely evening
    Blessings
    Renata:)

  15. I think option A is thrifted. It’s cute, but a little baggy and the shoes look a little more like old-school clunky heels than they do wedges. ALSO, colored skinny pants are all over the place right now, which makes me lean towards option B being grifted.

  16. This is a tough one! Although the top in outfit one looks like one I’d be much more willing to pay retail for (and not too little might I add), the shoes don’t look like they fit perfectly and the way the jeans fit you doesn’t look as good as in option two. They just look a little weird and maybe too wide in the cuffed area. Not really sure what it is… Soooo, because of all these reasons I’m going with option one as the thrifted one.

    1. See I’d say the opposite. I’m more OCD when buying thrifted clothes because there are so many name brand options while at the store I’ll get a size to small or too big because I might never see it again!

I love hearing from you guys!
