Today, I’m guest-posting for Lindsey of The Pleated Poppy (if you’re visiting, WELCOME!), sharing some of my tried and true thrifting tips. (Wooooohooooo!) Sorry, but I was just sounding so calm and normal when really I’m doing a serious jig as I type!

Please, be sure to check out Lindsey’s fabulous blog! You might even see me busting a move, so even if it weren’t a great site (which, it is), it would be worth checking out for my spastic-ness alone.

Oh, and if you haven’t already, make sure to click on the brand spankin’ new giveaway button there to the top right so you can enter to win $25 of credit to The Pleated Poppy shop. There’s so much cute stuff there it shouldn’t even be legal (and probably isn’t in Rhode Island).

And now for something completely different (Monty Python…anyone…anyone?):

I’m starting a new series here at Wardrobe Wednesday called Thrifted or Grifted.

Thrifted: (adj.): previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand.

Grifted: (adj.): swindled or cheated…aka Retail.

No, I don’t really think you’re getting cheated every time you pay retail, but I do generally think new clothes are overpriced, and it makes the series title rhyme, so…I’m going with it! *she says with a defiant chin tilt*

In Thrifted or Grifted, I will post two outfits, one of them Thrifted (Secondhand) and one Grifted (Retail), and it will be your job to decide which is which.

So without further ado, I give you…

Exhibit A:

and…

Exhibit B:

Although these are very similar outfits, the only identical element in them is the rolled flower corsage made by moi. And while the main thing these pictures prove is that I have too many aubergine blouses and wide-leg trouser jeans, I think they also establish that, if you do thrifting right, you shouldn’t be able to tell that it came from Goodwill or Salvation Army or…wherever…even though you paid a mere fraction of the retail cost.

So, here’s where you come in. I’ve created a little poll to find out just how sharp your eyes are. Think you know which outfit is thrifted? Take the poll and find out if others think the same:

Which outfit is 100% thrifted?

I will post the results of the poll, the correct answer, and an outfit source/price list tomorrow morning before Five Things Thursday.

If you’re new here, be sure to head on over to Secondhand or Bare Bottom for a daily dose of 100% thrifted goodness.

Happy guessing, and Happy Hump-day!

  1. I find amazing things at our GW for the littles. Amazing! Like my 1st grader is wearing 100% thrifted (mostly GW) for school this year. I don’t even go to b&m’s anymore for any of them. However, when it comes to me I strike out! I absolutely love that I found your SoBB blog as you inspire me to stop wearing the tee and skirt uniform I have grown accustom to 🙂

  2. i think they were both thrifted (just because i religiously follow 2ndhand or bare bottom also), you could never tell tho.

I love hearing from you guys!
