Hey guys! Since we always have so much fun with Thrifted or Grifted, I thought we might go another round this week!

Any objections?

No?

Oh, good.

So..what’s Thrifted or Grifted?

Well, it’s the fashion game where you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:

A) 100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand

OR

B) 100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail

…and then you vote and leave me comments telling why you chose the one you did!

(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think that you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).

If you’re a Thrifted or Grifted expert, then you know the drill—squash your face against your screen and check each outfit for telltale signs of thriftedness (ignore the wrinkles!) and then comment away telling me why you chose which one you did.

The commenter I find most entertaining (oh yeah! It’s as subjective as they come!) will get 5 free entries into our Shabby Apple Jewelry Giveaway! (Have you checked it out yet?)

Let’s get to it, shall we?

                                          Is it…

     Exhibit A                                            Exhibit B

2011-12-27

The especially observant of you might notice that the background in these pics is just a tad different than usual.

I mean, there are no leaves.

Other than that, obviously, they’re identical.  I mean, I have my hand on my hip, and there’s a fence behind me.

Identical, I say.

Speaking of identical…no matter how much you smoosh your nose against the screen, you won’t find a difference between the tights and the jewelry in these two outfits. That’s because they’re the same.  It’s pretty much a physical impossibility to scrounge up patterned sheer black tights at a thrift-store. Oh, and sparkly bib necklaces? Yeah, those are pretty few and far between as well.

So, this week, it’s all about the dresses and the shoes, so here are a few more shots for your obsessing perusing pleasure:

Exhibit A

AND

Exhibit B

So, how about it?

Which outfit is 100% Thrifted?

Oh, and I kind of left you hanging when I mentioned that the background for my pics was different this week. That part you got, I’m sure, but in case you’re wondering where it is, it’s the balcony of our suite at the resort we snuck away to for a few days.

These were supposed to be my trial run outfits for our big date night.

So…did I choose A or B?

Neither.

I went with Exhibit C

Because ruffles and silver shoes seemed like a bit much for Thai food and a movie in Marble Falls, Texas.

After seeing the movie theater dress code here in the hill country, I think Exhibit C was the way to go.

See everybody tomorrow for:

five days five ways | 5 Things Thursday

This week’s theme is:

newyearsresolutions

P.S. When I walked out in Exhibit B, my husband just stared at me with this look on his face that said, “I thought you said you were going to change.” And when I assured him that I already had, he didn’t believe me at first. Happy Guessing! (Diabolical chuckle).

  1. Hello! I’m new to the blog, been reading for over an hour…love it! 🙂 My guess is A….because there is a tiny mark on the toe of the shoe, whch would suggest thrift store find. Also, the dress in B is a chiffon, and ruffled chiffon dresses are really a current trend….thats my guess, haha…nothing Einstein about it

  2. I say A was thrifted. Only because I noticed a tiny scuff on the shoes. At first glance I thought they were the same dress, so I guess I’m in the same boat as your hubby.

  3. I just found your blog last week and I’m already obsessed! You are just too adorable and I’m sooo jealous of your Goodwill! I visited two thrift stores this weekend (one Goodwill, one similar but different name) and only found a few okay finds (and I swear our thrift stores here are overpriced – $5 and up for most tops, $6 for jeans, etc!). Anywho, I picked A as thrifted, and honestly the only reason I did is because it has a tube top-esque top and I figured someone would grow more tired of that style and donate it than they would with option B! :p

  4. I was going to say B because I think the narrow ruffles are more contemporary, but one shoe in A has a scuff and the shoes in B look unworn.

  5. I chose B, why do you ask? I am a detective and noticed that those were the shoes that were worn on the night in question at Goodwill……. or actually I noticed that the shoes are a tad bit worn at the ends but still wearable and very cute. I would wear them and love shopping at Goodwill. I love your blog 🙂

  6. HHHMMM!!! I went with “B” as thrifted only because that’s how I always did it in school when we had those stat testings… I just closed my eyes and circled a bubble… 🙂 So I say “B” it is… I also noticed the small scuff on the “A” shoe but hey I figure if I can scuff my shoe so can she.. 🙂 Oh by the way be sure to drop in I featured your beautiful Duct Tape Wreath.. https://shoprubyjean.com/2011/12/sew-crafty-tuesday-linky-3-and-features/

  7. Hrm, I said B only because in one picture your right shoe looks like it’s a little big for your foot and the dress is a teeny tiny bit shorter…but now that I’m looking at the pictures again, I just don’t know. I mean, maybe the other dress is a bit too long? Agh, you got me. Alas, I chose B…but maybe I’m not so confident any more!

  8. i have no idea – you have such a keen eye that i normally can’t tell. if i ever get it right it’s just because i had lady luck on my side!! lol. btw totally *hearting* exhibit c and still feeling envious (i no so totally wrong) of that purse! i am now checking all my local (ok so maybe 35 miles isnt persay local but i still go there!) at least once a week hopeing to find a great one like that to add to my collection, of course my new purse is awesome that i won from PCM fundraiser and has *TONS* of room!

  9. I said that Exhibit A was thrifted. The one gold shoe looks like it has a few small scuffs on it when you look at it close up, that’s really all I’ve got! 🙂 Both look great though!!

I love hearing from you guys!
