Happy Good Friday, everybody!

I have so many reasons to celebrate today:

  • My husband is coming home today!
  • He commanded me to go get a mani-pedi this afternoon and “pamper myself.” (I’m suddenly feeling very submissive and obedient).
  • I’m finishing up:

SKIRT-001

  • The sun is shining, and it’s a new day full of endless possibilities to bring glory to God and love others (if that sounds corny, believe me, that’s not the first thing I wake up with on my mind most most mornings, but it should be)!
  • And foremost of all, today is Good Friday, which is such a powerful reminder of the fact that my Savior died on a cross for my sins…but THEN HE ROSE AGAIN!

Yes, I do believe today is going to be a very good day. : )

As the grand finale for this week’s Skirt Challenge, I decided to completely rip off someone else’s idea—in this case, an adorable decoupage clutch that Scissors and Spatulas transformed last summer (the second I saw the post, I knew I wanted to be a copycat, but it took me until now to actually get it done!).

Here’s what I started out with:

A $0.59 tiger print wallet from Goodwill.

It wasn’t hideous to start with, but it wasn’t in the best shape, and it was kind of dingy in spots.

So I gave it a good wipe down and started mixing up my favorite decoupage concoction, which consists of the following:

RECIPE:

3 parts Elmer’s

to

1 part water

Yup, that’s it.

Then, I assembled my arsenal…

And got to work.

1. I cut my fabric generously to size (meaning that I let it hang over by at least an inch on each side)

IMG_2603

2. I brushed on a copious amount of my GC (glue concoction), then carefully smoothed the fabric over the surface of the clutch. I let it dry (I might have helped it along with the cool setting of my hair dryer), flipped it over, and did the same to the back.

3. Once the underneath layer had dried, I brush on another generous coat of GC directly on top of the fabric.

4. When my topcoat was almost dry, I trimmed all of my edges, and using the high heat setting on Glenda, the Glue Gun, I did my best to line up the edges with the clutch’s already existing seam. It’s still not just gorgeous at the moment, but I’m going to go back and scrape off the excess hot glue, once everything is 100% dry, which will pretty things up a bit.

5. I had this package of “gold” chain hanging around the craft room…

…so I decided to see if it would help finish off the edges.

I think when the excess hot glue’s gone, the answer will be yes.

6. The clutch was looking much cuter with its new Ikat suit, but it needed something…something…hmmm…what could I possibly have lying around that might dress her up a bit?

Ooooooh…I know!

And a few more globs of hot glue later, I had this!

Just in case you’ve forgotten, here’s a recap of all of the projects from this week’s challenge:

Collages3

I won’t be choosing features for today’s Feature Friday FREE-FOR-ALL (I know, BOOOO!…although I will be doing tons of Facebook features from last week’s party this weekend!).

So, as a consolation prize, I thought it might be fun to give away one of the projects.

Some of you have already told me which refashion is your favorite, but to enter, that’s all you have to do:

Leave me a comment telling me your favorite creation from this week’s Skirt Challenge, and I’ll assume that’s the one you’d like me to send you if you win (obviously, the one exception would be the flowers since I attached them to the clutch).

That’s IT.

No hoops, no extras.

This is just my thank you to you for being awesome!

Although, if you do share this giveaway on FB or Twitter, etc., let me know in a separate comment for each share, and you’ll get an extra entry for each one!

You guys ROCK!

  1. I thought all of your projects turned out great. Good job! I especially loved the infinity scarf and would love to win it!

Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.

  2. I love how your clutch turned out, I actually bought one similar at a thrift store and wasn’t sure what to do with it, so thanks for the great DIY.

  3. My favorite item is the headband. Since I may not win (since it’s a favorite of yours as well), I was wondering……would you happen to be willing to make one for me to sell me via PayPal? 😀

  4. I like the scarf best. You did a great job with all the projects. I saw a woman wearing a similar shaped mullet skirt this week in a store…made me think of your skirt challenge and I smiled.

  5. i love the clutch! pretty sure if i dont win, (which i most likely will not) i’ll have to go lookin for my own clutch to redo! yay! time to go goodwill shopping!

  6. I never win this stuff, and this time will probably be no exception…but the clutch is fantastic, and I wanted to tell you in the longest run-on sentence possible!

  7. Genius work with the skirt Abbie!! My favourite is the scarf <3, it looks wonderful on you! Oh and thanks for hosting (I'd find it hard to giveaway something I'd diy-ed, I get too attached to things I make myself)!!

  8. Oooooh. I fell in love with the wallet as soon as you stuck the flowers on it.

The whole week has been amazing. I can’t wait to look around the house and see what item has dreams of an upcycled life.

  9. I love all five of your projects! I think my favourite is the scarf. I just bought a dress today that would coordinate with it beautifully 😉
PS: I don’t know why, but disqus comment forms never let me sign in as my usual Jo @ To a Pretty Life. So that’s who I am https://toaprettylife.blogspot.com
