I like dresses.

They’re easy. And pretty. And comfortable (sometimes).

But when you’re nursing two infants, dresses aren’t exactly the essence of practicality.

I take my nursing wrap with me everywhere I go and am pretty good at nursing on the fly (I had to become an expert when Adelaide went on a nursing strike from 6 weeks to 12 weeks, and the only thing that made her eat was feeding her while standing up, walking around, and bouncing).

But it doesn’t matter how skilled you are if you’re wearing most dresses. You’re going to need a nursing Snuggie or a sheet to get your business done without alerting the whole world.

{Can you imagine my hauling a sheet out of my diaper bag during lunchtime rush at Chick-fil-a? My young friend from this incident would probably have a seizure!}

Unless.

You score a fun maxi like this one from Old Navy (that I paid $6 for).

It’s strapless, and the neckline is elastic, so with a jeans jacket thrown over it, it’s not only weather-appropriate and modest, but it’s actually nursing-friendly as well.

{Oh, the things you never had to factor into your shopping equations when you were sixteen}.

I wore this to church and totally felt like I was cheating since it’s so soft and comfy that I felt like I was wearing a nightgown (I promise I didn’t fall asleep during the message).

By the way, if it looks bright in these pics…

It was.

(Wow. That  is one gorgeous squint I’ve got, Clint Eastwood would be proud).

But when we were in the shade, it was too dark.

Apparently I’m the Goldilocks of photographic lighting.

And she wore her comfy elastic dress and lived happily ever after…

So, what about you guys? Are you fans of dresses too?

  1. I LOVE dresses! (Though, now that I say that I realize I’ve been wearing jeans an awful lot lately, which is unusual for me…) And I remember the awesomeness that was trying to find cute, comfortable things to wear while nursing. Because, let’s face it, nursing apparel was made for function, not form. Or form flattery. This is cute, Abbie. May you find many more colors and styles! 😉

  2. that is genius! the starpless deal! can’t wait to see what you find on your thrift adventures now that you’ve discovered it.
plus i can’t believe you gave birth to twins just a short while ago. you LOOK AMAZING!

  3. I bought the exact same dress as well, with the same thoughts in mind! 🙂 (although mine was $9!)
Oh, and I totally failed at nursing wear yesterday- I took Canaan to the pedi and wore a NOT-nursing friendly dress, and of course he wanted to nurse the ENTIRE time we were there- so I was showing some leg! lol

  4. For 2.5 years now I’ve only purchased clothing with the mindset “Can I nurse in this?” Its sometimes annoying because it limits your options. Oh well. I wouldn’t give up nursing for anything!

I love dresses, I just don’t always have the time to shave my legs so I can wear them. And that’s when I’m glad that maxis came back into fashion and look like they are here to stay for a while!

I’m also glad I live in Florida where I can where them year round. 🙂

  5. Yes! I love dresses! It drove me nuts that I couldn’t wear any of mine back when I was nursing my kiddo (three years ago, now). I’ll have to remember to go strapless next time.

Love that dress on you! You look fresh and lovely! 🙂

  6. Camis by Undercover Mama are a wardrobe saver for nursing moms!! No paid endorsement here…just a happy milking mama! lol

  7. I love the simplicity of dresses. Since I fed my first two to around the 20 month mark (Ok, so it was only a bed time feed by then!) I decided this time around to invest in a couple of feeding dresses that I found on sale. YOURS however is not only cute, but an absolute bargain! Well done. I think you look totally fab, by the way. I’d wear it in a heartbeat. (And yes, I have done simmilar. Did you know that tube tops work about the same if you want to wear a top the doesn’t give you good access? 😉 Just sayin’)
    Have a great week!

I love hearing from you guys!
