I’m afraid that I’ve been very remiss in the introductions department around here. You see, we have a new addition. Actually, make that three new additions.

Meet Whiskers, Ginger, and Scout (top to bottom).

They’re the cutest little invaders, and regardless of the fact that the twins have done their best to choke them to death on numerous occasions, the truth is we’re all very happy they’re here.

They’re really rather remarkable felines.

They like to quietly ponder life’s greater mysteries.IMG_1590

“I wonder how long I can stand here in peace before Scout and Whiskers ambush me?”

IMG_1611

“Not long, apparently.”

They play piano.

Their favorite song? Why, “Fur” Elise, of course. {Groan}

They do magic tricks every now and then.

Behold the Genius Ginger, and his incredible two-tailed cat trick!

They even do their best to blend in with the decor.

But mostly, they just lie around a lot and chase each other’s tales.

Oh, and they make my kids smile.

And that’s enough for me.

What about you guys? Any new additions in your house?

Are you a pet family? We’re not. I mean, my kids would (theoretically) be all about it, but we’ve tried our hands at fish and now cats, and while the fish were, ahem, not entirely successful, we’ve had the kittens for a few months now, and the kids are still feeding and playing with them, so we’ll call that a win.

  1. We are definitely a pet-friendly family. As my husband and I like to say… “we prefer our kids with 4 legs and a tail.” None of the 2-legged tailless versions for us. 😉 We have 1 70-lb Labrador and 3 cats. I think next on our list will be ferrets. I also used to work at the Houston Humane Society and I still volunteer with several local shelters. We’ll have a zoo one day I’m sure. Congrats on your new little additions! They’re absolutely precious!

  2. As for the allergies: My husband is allergic to cats and we got two cats two and a half years ago. They share an apartment with us, sleep in our bed (although we have recently banned them from the bedroom during nighttime because we are going to have a baby in a couple of weeks and don’t want the cats to sleep wherever the baby is sleeping), lick us… and my husband shows no signs of allergies. He does get a runny nose whenever we’ve been away for a couple of days, but that only lasts for a day or two and then he is fine again. His theory is that his immune system gets used to them and that he loves them too much to ever give them up anyway, so his body is basically forced to adapt. (I do know that there are people with allergies who could never do that and I don’t mean to offend them. It’s just that this is how it works for us.)

    Best Sarah

  3. Pets are perfect for teaching kids about responsibility!!! And for us older adult kids, they are great providers of companionship when your significant other is away!!! Even us dog people love adorable kitties

  4. Awww! So cute!!!! We just added a goldendoodle about 3 weeks ago. The cats don’t like him but he sure does bring a lot of joy and laughter to the house.

  5. How sweet! I would love to have a dog, but as I live in an apartment, I think it would be cruel and unusual punishment to own one right now. Hopefully someday soon though!
As for new additions, I have a 4 week old daughter who has turned our lives upside down (for the better, or course 🙂 )

  6. <y cat passed away a little over a year ago, and our lab this last spring. They both had very long lives, and were well loved. We now foster Labrador Retrievers, and it's been a nice bridge from losing our Lucy to finding a perfect fit for our family.
Oh, my oldest won a goldfish at a Halloween fair 3 years ago. He's still finning around, despite some neglect (I can barely see him in there right now – EW!)

  7. Kittens? Wow! Kittens are what happiness is all about. We have 3 kitties, an 11 year old, a 6 year old and a 4 year old. They are the best companions (who are self sufficient. )

Like a doggie, the love outside, they play-fight, the love their bouncy ball. At night, they take over our bed with us in them and purr us to sleep.#happinessisacat

  8. Awwwww!!! They are sooo cute!!!! My girls would love a cat, but my son and I are allergic!

We did, however, add a mini golden doodle to our family a year ago and we just adore him! I grew up with a dog, but having 4 kids in five years made me cry at the thought of a pet; my husband was more upset than the kids as I constantly said no, so I started praying Gid would change my heart…

Lo and behold, he did, and I love our Bailey boy almost more than the kids do!! He was a great addition to our family and I know your kitties will continue to be also!!

    1. My oldest is somewhat allergic. But the kittens don’t have enough dander yet, and they’re sleeping outside, so hopefully, he’ll be able to handle it when they get older.

  9. We have too many! We have 3 dogs, and two outside cats whom I’ve been feeding but refuse to call our cats. (they were the neighborhood strays before we moved in) Well one is a female and just had a litter, so we currently have 4 kittens that I am trying to get rid of. But they are adorable. I’d keep them all if my husband let me! (He is allergic to cats)

  10. At one point I had two kids, two large fish tanks, two cats and two guinea pigs. Not I have two kids, one large fish tank, no cats (they both passed), one guinea pig (one passed) and an 18 month old German Shepard. I do miss having a cat tho.

    Your kittens are adorable!

  11. Cats are wonderful pets…and they steal your heart very quickly…kids and pets are a good combination – Congrats on adding to your family – We have a black cat named Sloan that we rescued from a local shelter when he was a kitten…he’s almost 5 years old now and we wouldn’t trade him for the world!

  12. We have 3 cats — Harvey, Link & Zelda and 2 dogs — Buddy and Jack. Don’t tell Jack & Buddy, but I’m a cat person. We just spent the weekend kitten-sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it once the initial hissing was over.

I love hearing from you guys!
