Time for yet another round of everybody’s favorite thrifting guessing game (does it still count as your favorite if it’s your only thrifting game?).

And what game would that be?

Why, THRIFTED OR GRIFTED, of course!

So, what is T+G?

It’s a silly little fashion game I came up with in which I wear two similar ensembles, and you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:

A) 100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand

OR

B) 100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail (NOTICE THE “R” IN GRIFTED! SOMETIMES, I GET EMAILS FROM PEOPLE WONDERING WHY I DO A GAME ABOUT “GIFTED” CLOTHES! : ))

…and then you vote and leave me comments telling why you chose the one you did!

(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).

If you’re a Thrifted or Grifted pro, then you know the drill—use your hands as binoculars, call your very disinterested husband in for a second opinion, do innie-minnie-miney-moe…whatever it takes for you to feel fully satisfied that you have sufficiently scoured each outfit for telltale signs of thriftedness (WRINKLES DON’T COUNT!) and then comment away telling me why you chose which one you did.

The commenter I find most entertaining (there’s nothing fair or random about it! ; )) will get 5 free entries into our upcoming giveaway (which really is upcoming…PROMISE…there’s been a hiccup—actually two…ha!—in the programming of giveaways around here, but something fun is in the works!).

Okey dokey, artichokey (I’ve always wanted to type that. I don’t know why, but I always picture myself wearing a camp counselor’s uniform from the original Parent Trap when I do).

Let’er rip, tater chip! (I’ve never wanted to type that, but I figured while I was on silly, rhyming, food-themed phrases roll, I’d get in as many as I could).

Is it…

EXHIBIT A

I’m not sure if you’re going to be able to wrap your head around this one, but I actually added just the teensiest bit of color to my skin when I edited these photos because, without it, I am so white that I look almost see-through.

When my oldest, Ezra, saw this dress, he asked if it had owls on it.

At first, I was totally confused, until I glanced down at the pattern on my dress and saw two big “owl-eyes” staring back up at me. He’s an observant little boy.

Or…

EXHIBIT B

Just in case you’re wondering (and you might not be at all), my hair is fixed in two different variations of the “layered twist” style that I explained how to do here.

And now, it’s time to tell me…

Which outfit is 100% thrifted?

VOTING IS CLOSED, BUT YOU CAN SEE THE RESULTS HERE!

P.S. Thank you to those of you who helped out on the Facebook page with choosing which watch to buy. If you missed it or aren’t subscribed, here’s what I showed everybody yesterday:

facebook

The response was pretty much overwhelmingly: Option 2.

Which, I can’t deny makes the most sense for everyday wear (though, in my heart of hearts, I kind of loved Option 1 because it was funky and different).

Problem was, Option 2 was $107 on Overstock, and even though I had some Paypal cash leftover from Shop My Closet, as you can guess, it’s still kind of hard for a girl who comes up with games like Thrifted or Grifted to shell out that kind of dough for a trendy watch.

So, I did what any true bargain-hunter would and checked Amazon for a price comparison.

Guess what I found?

Fullscreen capture 5152012 94626 PM-001

Same watch (although I know it looks different because of the lighting in the picture) 40% cheaper, and one left in stock.

And you know what else?

A while back, I was searching through some old emails in an even older account that I almost never use, and I stumbled across an email from Amazon that I’d never seen, giving me the code for a gift card for $67.

I don’t even remember what it was for (I assume a refund or…something).

But it sure did feel like FREE MONEY!

And I bet you can guess what I spent my $67 totally-didn’t-even-know-I-had-it gift card on.

My new watch will be here Thursday.

Total cost out of my pocket?

$4.

Now, that’s a good deal.

  1. The poll always closes before I arrive. Think that is the delay from the feed coming to my email?

    ~Bliss~

  2. I think the second one is thrifted. I have no idea why. But I do love the original Parent Trap… “straighten out this mess with togetherness. TOGETHERNESS… the parent trap!” 🙂

  3. I wasn’t sure on this one, but I chose B. Either way you are super adorable, and I am seriously jealous of how cute you are when pregnant! I’m pretty sure that sweats and a t-shirt were my pregnancy ‘uniforms’ haha. And….I totally feel you on the pale thing. I was almost afraid to rock shorts today while mowing the yard for fear of running people off the road with my blinding white legs! 🙂

  4. I’m voting for A, because although I think that dress is awesome enough to be worth full price, I’m hoping it was thrifted because then it would be awesome enough to be full price, but NOT!

Also, found a link that made me think of you– on how to prepare for breastfeeding multiples. Like you, I’ve been praying that God will give me babies one at a time. He must know you are ready for a challenge!

  5. So happy I could comment today since I work and never get a chance too 🙂 I’m going with A because I always go with reverse psychology. I think it may be B, but I don’t trust myself. I’m not a good judge of these things….just like I’m a terrible judge of the lines at WalMart. I always seems to choose the longest line! What I need to do is apply the same thrifted/grifted reverse psychology and pick a line and then go with the total opposite! Genius! haha!! You look so cute in both, BTW! And if you ever have one of those unused Amazon gift cards floating around…be happy to help ya with it!! lol! Great score on the watch!

  6. (Can’t figure out how to put my name at the beginning of this- and my techno hubs is at work – I hate being anonymous) Seriously, I’d love to hire you to be my personal shopper! You seem to pull off wonderful looks that I can only envision but have a hard time translating while running through the store with my two year old! (Yeah, let me know if you could pencil that into your busy life- Ha!) Anyways, picking B as thrifted because A is so stinkin’ cute and if you found it (A) at Goodwill I’d have to launch a huge complaint campaign at my local Goodwill because all they ever have is old T-shirts with school logos and bad home sewing project skirts! I especially love the pop of red necklace with A. So, if I’m wrong, you’ll see me on the 5 o’clock picketing out front of the north San Antonio GW like a crazy lady demanding cuter stuff- well, it will be a better human interest story than the guy who couldn’t remember where he put his pet tiger…yeah, we had that one…

  7. I guessed B because it’s plain and looks kind of big & awkward sized so you would have bought for cheap at Goodwill. The tanktop definitely gives me this illusion as well. I’m not sure why but I am really in love with that crazy “owl” print in the first dress (I actually thought that too at first before I saw that comment) so as much as I would hope that’d be a Goodwill find I’m also secretly hoping I could find a similar pretty, funky dress for myself! I’m probably totally wrong but I always forget to vote & am glad I found the time today!!

  8. Oh my goodness, once again, both outfits are so adorable! I’m guessing B just because…
    Love the 4.00 watch too!

  9. Huzzah! Great deal and you have to love ‘free’ money. Hmmm…I think that A is the thrifted.

  10. Abbie, you amaze me. What a bargain on that awesome watch! I’m going with B as thrifted because A is such a “hoot.”

  11. I chose B. only because your shoes look like they don’t fit as nicely. This one was tough though!! I also chose B just because I love that we can see your baby bump more in that one!!!

  12. At this point, Abbie, I am completely confused. You really are tricky at this! I went with A, dont ask me why…maybe its the necklace or maybe its the style of the shoes. who knows! Now, looking again, It could be B because your shoes do look big….ugh! See, totally confused!

  13. I’m saying B, because you have to wear that tank under it, and it looks like something I’d buy saying, “Yeah, for $2 I’ll try it with that tank I have at home.” I have cleavage issues in a crew neck. 🙂

  14. OH Five Days, 5 Way, how you always trick me! I’ll be honest, I literally have no idea. They are both adorable. But since you must force me to pick I will pick B. Only because in one of the pictures, the shoes look like they are a little loose. That is my guess, but either way you should rock both of them all summer!

  15. I think that the print in A is more ‘in’ now, but the jewelry looks totally Goodwill-eclectic! And the dress in B looks more classic, more likely to be pre-loved and passed on. Plus…that shoe…is it just wee bit big or do my eyes deceive me?

  16. I’m choosing B as thrifted, only because the accessories are “less.” But it still looks great because who needs major accessories when you have the cutest baby bump ever! (or would it be “babies bump”? How the heck do you plural that?)

  17. You got a cool watch for nothing….you are ridiculous!!! I vote A as thrifted. Cause I’m sticking with the same one. And even though those are owl eyes…you make even owl eyes look good :). P.S. I have watch #2…it looks darn good :).

  18. I chose outfit A, it’s my favorite and looks great on you….since it looks so good, I hope it is A!! Awesome deal on the watch, I love when I find free money!

  19. I would say B is thrifted because the shoes look a little big. On a side note, I like watch option number one best too, but #2 is whats “in” right now.

  20. hhhmmmm that is a toughy because I actually thought both could be thrifted…I finally decided on B because prints seem to be in right now…although it is most likely A because I am usually wrong:-) You are such a cute little pregnant momma!

  21. I’m choosing A because the shoes and jewelry seem like pieces you would pick up at the GW. Both are cute outfits!

  22. I honestly didn’t care for the print in A so that is what I chose. (You look great!) And, by the way, nothing is better than “finding” money to buy your new bauble! I can’t wait to see what it looks like on your wrist 🙂

  23. I think B is thrifted – shoes look like they are a tad big. My daughter, like you, has very fair skin and its hard in high school because everyone uses fake tan.

  24. I think “B” was thrifted, but can’t really say why. Just looks a little out of date maybe? BTW, congratulations on the great way you got that watch!

  25. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again- this game is so fun!!
I think A is thrifted because that navy dress is too blue to be worn in…
unless of course it was thrifted brand new-ish…
    then B would be thrifted, because A is not {then the poison would be in my own glass, unless of course you used reverse psychology, then you would have put it in my glass…Princess Bride, anyone?}
Love your hair cute preggers lady!
    xox Bec

I love hearing from you guys!
