It’s that time again!
Thrifted or Grifted time.
Press-your-nose-up-against-your-computer-screen-and-overanalyze-my-outfits-to-your-little-hearts-content time.
Just in case you’re wondering what in tarnation Thrifted or Grifted is…well, it’s a silly little fashion game I came up with in which I wear two similar ensembles, and you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:
A) 100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand
OR
B) 100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail
…and then you vote and leave me comments telling why you chose the one you did!
(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).
If you’re a Thrifted or Grifted pro, then you know the drill—strain your eyes (please don’t send me your glasses prescription bill) inspecting each outfit for telltale signs of thriftedness (WRINKLES DON’T COUNT!) and then comment away telling me why you chose which one you did.
The commenter I find most entertaining (there’s nothing fair or random about it! ; )) will get 5 free entries into our upcoming giveaway (hopefully, this Friday…stay tuned).
By the way…
I’m not sure what color you would call my shirts (Kermit, Kelly, Shamrock?), but the funny thing is that while they appear identical in the pictures, the colors are actually fairly different.
The top in Exhibit A is actually a deep emerald, and the color in Exhibit B is pretty much the color that you see on crayons labeled with the word “green” and is pretty accurately represented (at least on my screen).
Not that that will help you decide which is thrifted or should in any way sway your opinion, but I just thought I’d share that fascinating little tidbit before we get started.
So, let’s do this!
Is it?…
EXHIBIT A
or
EXHIBIT B
Okay, this is going to sound like bragging, but I promise I don’t mean it that way at all.
I just have to say that I really like my hair in Exhibit B.
But the thing is, I’d just finished exercising while wearing it up in a sweaty bun, and then I showered and literally pulled it down, shook it out, looked in the mirror, and thought, “Huh, I guess we’ll go with it.”
I know, I know. You’re probably thinking, “Well, la-dee-dah for you. Hush.”
But, while I don’t do a whole of lot hair-styling in general (too lazy), the whole shake-it-out-after-a- workout-and-have-it-fall-in-place-and-look-pretty thing is quite rare.
And, while I’m grateful that it decided to do it before I was taking pictures, I might have preferred that it do such a thing before, say, a hot date with my husband.
Hair.
It’s a confusing thing sometimes.
And, yes, I realize it looks like I’m about to do an “Elle” hair-flip right here.
(Hello, linty pants)
Have you finished your inspection?
Are you sufficiently cross-eyed yet?
If so, get to voting!
The poll is closed, but you can see the results here!
P.S. If you missed yesterday’s Reversible Baby Booties (now there’s a phrase I’d never typed before) post, be sure to check it out—especially near the bottom where there’s oodles of cute pics of Della!
Linking up with Lindsay!

The poll is closed but I love the second one!!! I stopped by thanks to the linky party and join your site 😉
I would say the second one, but the voting is closed! So which one is it?
So I have a tendency to go against the popular opinion and sometimes against all reason (I mean really, what ARE the chances of thrifted stain free white pants?). Outfit A–thrifted. Oh yeah.
I’ve never played this game before and I can’t even figure out how to vote so I’m just gonna guess the shirt in B is thrift, and just wondering if either of those pants have stretch waist bands?
~Bliss~
Love your first look and your second shoes. New follower.
B is thrifted. Clearly. You are trying to distract us from the fact by mentioning your hair … which is just plum fabulous any which way, girlfriend! And the pants in B are just blah-er. Love the white ones so much better. So if A is the thrifted, you are even more fanspactacular than even I suspected .. because THAT outfit rocks the house … hair and all! xoxo
Yep, your hair is gorgeous! I’m going to say B….but it’s a tough one! They’re both awesome!
I don’t know why I voted A, except for it is a fabulous outfit, you look amazing in the colors, I purchased the top for my mother (sometime back… 1 or 2 years ago at Target maybe?)….so, 50/50 decision…I picked A!
I’m going to say Exhibit A is thrifted because it’s uber fabulous and looks amazing on you, which would make it even more of a surprise – especially to find white pants in great condition! And also the sandals look a teensy bit shorter than what you might buy them if you were buying retail…..of course if they’re comfy wumf to you, then no matter.
Exhibit B also is fantastic though, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous of the outfits, and your hair (seriously brag away!!), and your arms…….lol!
First off… yay for days when your hair magically falls into the perfect place!! I love when that happens <3 Secondly, I vote Exhibit B as thrifted because there is no way that you'd ever find such a gorgeous pair of white pants without stains at the thrift store (either that or you are the Queen of bleach)!
I voted exhibit B is thrifted. I have two reasons: firstly, the dressy jeans look a little too big on you, like they’ll show up in a “Shop My Closet” with a description: “New condition, size 2, fits like a 4.” And secondly, you look a little conniving in the head shot for exhibit 2. Like you’ve got something up your sleeve, except for the fact that it’s a sleeveless shirt, of course. 🙂
Both outfits are lovely, as always!
I’m going with B is thrifted. I have the shirt in Exhibit A (in a teal color- you’d love it!) and got it for a steal from Target.com last year, maybe you did too? 🙂
Also, we’ll go with “Kelly green” for the color, for obvious reasons. 🙂
I love this green ruffle top! It is so pretty on you and what a great spring color!
What gave it away ( I think) were the shoes. The shoes in A look like leather and fairly newer. Also, the earrings in A are amazing! Those also gave it away! By the way, you look fabulous in green! It looks great against your skin tone! And dont feel ashamed about loving you hair! We all think it every once in a while, you just have the guts to say it out loud! 🙂
When I saw this challenge I had to say “Wow! Green goddess!” and I didn’t mean the dressing! (The word verdant also came to mind) Anyways- love the color and would pick B as thrifted- I absolutely love the way white pants just spark up an outfit- they seem to elevate it from the ordinary- and don’t we all want to be extraordinary!
I am going to say B is thrifted because I got a top like A before St Patty’s day. And in A you are wearing white pants. It’s probably hard to find a good pair of white white pants at the thrift store. Just random reasoning! 🙂
I have no idea. So I’m gonna just go with A
I have no idea…green, emerald or otherwise, is definitely YOUR color! I voted A because the shoes look a smidge too small.
I VOTE B as thrifted because A is gorgeous and because the fit is B is so much worse than A; which means that you could only justify B because it was at a thrift shop.
You look amazing in green. And your hair really looks beautiful. Love how that happens!
Peace,
Edie
2 dogs + 1 cat + inherent clumsiness = I will never wear white pants. But you look great in them! I like both outfits (kelly green and navy is one of my favorite combinations). It’s hard to tell without seeing the rise on the pants – sometimes that’s a dead giveaway.
First, I wish I could pull of an outfit like Ex A…it’s so sleek and classy looking. I can’t wear white and keep it clean for a minute. Second, you hair in Ex B is amazing. Would never have guessed it started out in a messy (assuming), sweaty bun. Hair is totally confusing sometimes! I can’t ever get my hair to do a cute pony tail unless I’ve worn it straight down all day & then pull it up when I get home for the day without looking in a mirror. It’s annoying. I think the trick is to just let your hair think you don’t care what it’ll end up looking like.
Okay, I voted Ex. B because of the way the pants fit. They aren’t as tailored as the white ones. Neither is the shirt. It doesn’t have the same sleek look as Ex A does.
I thrift shop for everyone in our family. There are always certain items you do not seem to find secondhand. One of those items is a good pair of darker jeans. That is one of the main reasons I voted exhibit A as your thrifty find. The animal print shoes which are big this spring kinda gave it away too. Cute outfits!!
While I love love love the detailing on B’s neckline, I think it still shouts thrifted along with the darn fuzz on the pants. I too dig your hair as evidenced by a previous email 🙂
I love A too by the way!
Always such lovely posts!
I voted B for thrifted, but only because the pants in outfit A look like they fit a little bit better. Who knows?? Green’s definitely your color though, no matter what shade! It looks so pretty with your dark hair! And who cares if it’s bragging. When you look good, you look good! 🙂
I guessed A, mostly because of your general trickery. Also, I’m hoping voting for A increases my chances of finding a pair of shoes that cute at Goodwill myself. Unrealistic? Perhaps. But a girl has to have dreams.
I think it’s B that’s thrifted. A is a very current look, and B, while quite cute, is a bit behind the times. Your hair really is fabulous, by the way. I hate when I have a great hair day and absolutely nothing to do and nowhere to go, it hardly seems fair!
Oh who the hell knows? I voted for A cuz it just ain’t fair for you to look that good in both outfits, and I like the ruffles. And I’m confused as to having a choice of thrifted or gifted for two outfits – are you asking if both are thrifted? Are both gifted? Is one gifted and one thrifted?…see, I’m one of those ‘literal’ ones and easily confused…am I entertaining you or just annoying? 😉
I say b is thrifted because I have been seeing a lot of ruffles on the sewing blogs I am on. Everyone is adding ruffles. That ruffled top is really cute.
I say A is thrifted because really, how many jeans does a girl need, so I thought you’d go with the cute white pants at the thrift store. Not super logical, but I have to have a reason and it doesn’t have to make sense, does it?
It never seems that the outfit I like best is thrifted so I went for the exhibit A.
I voted for A…cause you are tricky. And A has cuter shoes….which look more expensive. I go by the shoes. But, because it’s you, that probably means you scored them from Goodwill for 23 cents or something. And your hair ALWAYS looks supermodel worthy!
I am voting for A. But, I love exhibit B so much! That top is super cute!
I voted for B. just because i donated a shirt similar to that to goodwill a while back 🙂
both outfits are adorable and i’m super jealous of your hair!!
Hmmm I would say ensemble B is thrifted… not because you look like a lint bunny either! (I mean, with hair like that we hardly noticed what you were wearing!!! Woo Girl!) Loving the earrings in A, and the hair in B. Hair seems to think it should look fab when there is no-one around to notice much (well, mine does) – atleast you got a photo of yours. 🙂
I think ensemble A is thrifted. I prefer ensemble B on you though, looks fantastic!
