Hey there, folks!
Thrifted or Grifted is baaaaaaack!
Which means I must be feeling better if I got dressed in not one but two outfits (including heels!).
I am.
Thanks so much for your sweet comments, emails, and prayers!
Okay, so if you’re a Thrifted or Grifted regular, then you’ve probably already skipped past all this and are busy scrutinizing every last detail of the outfits.
But just in case you’re new here, here’s the breakdown:
Thrifted or Grifted is a silly little fashion game I came up with in which I wear two similar ensembles, and you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:
A) 100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand
OR
B) 100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail (NOTICE THE “R” IN GRIFTED! SOMETIMES, I GET EMAILS FROM PEOPLE WONDERING WHY I DO A GAME ABOUT “GIFTED” CLOTHES! : ))
…and then you vote and leave me comments telling why you chose the one you did!
(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).
If you’re a Thrifted or Grifted pro, then you know the drill—put your computer on the floor and then look at it while doing downward dog or standing on your head…whatever it takes for you to feel fully satisfied that you have sufficiently scoured each outfit for telltale signs of thriftedness (WRINKLES DON’T COUNT!) and then comment away telling me why you chose which one you did.
The commenter I find most entertaining (there’s nothing fair or random about it! ; )) will get 5 free entries into our upcoming giveaway (very soon!):
So…
Is it?
OPTION A
{Ignore the bag; I’ll go ahead and tell you that it’s thrifted, since I was planning on carrying it with both outfits with the disclaimer that you shouldn’t factor it into your decision…and then I decided on a different Option B that didn’t coordinate with the bag, but I was way too lazy to retake the pics of Option A without the bag; make sense? not really? Sorry about that}.
Or…
OPTION B
{Clearly, zero remnants of my summer “tan” are lingering on my uber-pasty skin}
Okay, so if you’re tired of squinting, how about you go ahead and vote?
I’ll leave the poll open until 8 AM tomorrow since I’m posting later than usual.
Which outfit is 100% Thrifted?
The jacket is impressive and stylish. I like style with protection. Devon and Jones D780 full zip jacket is in my use. It is just awesome!
I can’t guess with the second outfit. I guessed the bag in the first one, so yes, it does count. 🙂
I think the jacket in the first outfit is thrifted. I think the dress is gifted. It looks like someone lovingly looked around until they found the perfect pretty dress. Of course, that someone could have been you 😉
As I said, I am less sure about the second outfit.
I don’t particularly have any good reasons to guess that A is thrifted (although light denim doesn’t show up too often these days) but I would pay full price for the B dress, so that’s my guess. As a nursing mom, it’s hard to find dresses that are breastfeeding friendly– and what nursing mom wouldn’t pay retail for a dress with those convenient little hook and eye closures? Either that, or it’s a totally lucky find 🙂
I chose option B because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen those shoes at a thrift store… and ALMOST bought them! Except I’m not as cute as you, so I don’t think I could pull them off… Not to mention I would probably break my ankle, which would make the shoes only half as cute because the other half would be replaced by a cast. I shall continue to live fashionably vicariously through you!
I REALLY REALLY LOVE option A! Something about the contrast of black and red with a light wash of denim blue–Love it! So I picked B as thrifted ; )
Haiku for A:
Today I guess A.
Of course I could be wrong.
This ends my comment.
🙂
I guessed A solely based on the wash of the jacket. I have not seen a light wash jacket in retail stores for a while. Both dresses seem to fit perfectly. You look amazing recovering from giving birth and illness.
I guessed A at random, but honestly I am just really jealous that you got one of those denim jackets at a thrift store! I am dying for the perfect one with the perfect fit. Maybe your thrift stores are just better than mine lol
wow-wee… you look amazing. my gut is telling me A is thrifted. my gut is also telling me I want a cupcake… but I’m trying to ignore that! 🙂
Here’s the deal. I’m slightly obsessed with the dress in option A. So let me tell you… if that cuteness is available for retail out there somewhere in the great broad retail expanse of Tyler (coughcough)… I have NOT seen it, or it would be IN MY CLOSET or ON MY BODY right NOW.
Option A is thrifted. Gotta be.
I have a strange and unsettling memory. I think I’ve seen the light wash jacket in A on here before…actually yeah, cause I searched for the post 🙂 so…now, I just have to figure out…does eBay count as thrifted or grifted…?
I think that Outfit B is thrifted. That’s only because I’m not a fan of the shoes! I had a pair like that once and I had several near ankle-breaking experiences!!
I always choose the outfit I think is cuter, and it’s usually right, so I’m voting for A!
Hello sultry! You look smashing in your first pic (and all of them, for that matter!)…who just had twins?! I am picking “B” as thrifted based mostly on the shoes…the sandals strike me as thrifted for some reason. Also, the jacket in “A” looks older, but I am banking on it being one of those that is made to look that way on purpose.
Soooo happy your are feeling better! And even happier that you feel well enough for T&G! Woot! Woot!
Clearly, I’m terrible at this guessing, but I’m going w/ B. Not sure why….just gotta gut feeling. Or is that hunger…..not sure!
Either way, you are looking great Hot Mamma!
(And maybe I’ll get picked for best comment due to my overuse of exclamation points!!) 😉
Ok… here we go again… I believe in my well thought out opinion that OPTION B is thrifted. The reasons are I like Option A more and therefore I would actually pay more. Love the shoes, the bag, the dress – simple. It comes down to LOVE.
#1, How did you get your kids to leave you along long enough to look that good……..and rested!!??
#2, I voted B, because A’s colors looked way too bright and pretty to be previously loved by another! (And I like A’s bohemian quality better.)
I’m pretty sure I remember a post about the denim Jacket in option A that you purchased on ebay or something….so I’m going A!
Option B is thrifted. And if I am as right as I am hoping I am, I am 100% and completely more jealous than I already was that you are wearing this outfit. See the thing is… I love it and I want it. I would never find something that cute at my local thrift store, which again makes me jealous. You have the best life. *sigh*
In A you have this “look at me now in this hot thrifted outfit” look!!! Seriously, you are looking great. Soooooooo I chose A as thrifted. I believe on one of your previous trips this summer you had to replace a jean jacket that you misplaced and the one in B looks like that one. Well, so much for reasoning…..hope I’m right and if I am, you should seriously keep A, it’s soooooo cute on you!!!
Okay, I picked B as being thrifted because the dress in A is so cute and fits so well that it looks like you bought it new. PLUS the shoes in A are the ‘now’ color, and look brand new. Either way, I wish we could go thrifting together, you find the best stuff! 😉
I think outfit A probably was thrifted…I have not seen anything like the skirt in retail shops, it’s different somehow, very original. Both outfits are super cute! BTW, is your hair naturally curly? It always looks SO good!
XO,
Jane
You look fabulous! This was tough. I am going with B as thrifted as the sleeves on your denim jacket has elbow crease marks near your forearm/wrist area. I have orangatang arms – so I notcice these things!
You look awesome, amazing! Go girl, beat those shingles!
Love “a”. “B”, nice. Just like “a” better!
okay so not only did I love this post – AND love the outfits, but both sets of pictures were so uh-MAZEing that my decision was a rather difficult one. The thing is, outfit number 1 is sooo kyoot that I just could’t imagine that jumping into your bag from a retail store. Call me crazy, but I think the most awesome outfit (i.e. outfit A!!!) is the thrifted one!!! GO GOODWILL!!!!!!!!!!!
I think B is thrifted because I also remember a post about that light colored denim jacket from outfit A. I liked the jacket when you asked our opinions, so I’m glad that you decided to keep it!! 🙂
Let me just start off by saying that I’m super jels (jealous) of your gorgeous hair! God sure blessed you with amazing locks! Also may I add that you don’t look AT ALL like you just had twins!
Moving on, my vote for thrifted would be option B! Your shoes, jacket, and purse are wayyyyyy too “new” looking in option A to be second-hand. Both outfits are rockin’ but I’m in “Love” with a capital L, with that dainty ruffle purse. Meow!
A is thrifted. Because that dress is gor.ge.ous. And when you come across a find like that at the thrift store, you thank your lucky stars and then brag about it for years. Thrifted perfection. I’m sure of it.
I think A is grifted because I’m sure I remember reading a post about the story behind denim jacket… LOVE the shoes with outfit A! Totes adorbs!
I chose A, but love the shoes in B 🙂
I’m betting on A thinking no one would actually pay retail for red shoes – no matter how cheap!!! Cute clothes, again!
OH and i almost forgot. i have a similar/same jacket as in B! which i thrifted. 🙂
i voted b is thrifted because a) i remember the saga of the jean jacket that you’re wearing in a (and it was a good one) b) i really hope i can just go out and buy those shoes in a and not have to find them in a thrift store because in these parts they’d be hard to come by and c) i really like your hair. that has nothing to do with anything i just wanted you to know.
I’m choosing B as thrifted because the dress is a little shorter than you generally wear, and I can imagine you having a somewhat limited view of the mirror in Goodwill, what with the shopping cart, Della, the boys, (I’m assuming you bought this prior to twins) and whatever “distractions” you brought to keep said children amused.
A few thoughts come to mind while reading this post:
1) I’m having total hair envy.
2) If you and I were out together with the twins, everyone would wrongly assume that they were mine, based on your no.way.did.I.just.have.twins figure!
3) I vote for A — but I’m usually wrong so it’s probably B.
Love the first option… love the colors on you!!!! Your hair is looking GREAT! I remember during my pregnancy and after for sometime my hair was awesome….enjoy it!
I think it’s B, because of the length of the dress. BUT! if A’s jacket is in fact the one that was in the previous denim jacket post, you said you got it on eBay, so would that make it thrifted? I’m so confused!
I didn’t skip ahead to find out the result – I promise – but I’m just catching up with some of my reading now, and wanted to say that I think option B is Thrifted – it’s just a feeling I get. Oh, and I want to know where you got the dress in ‘option A’ girl! 🙂
